It took me years to identify the one true thing that separates successful and unsuccessful businesses. To separate from those who are running a going-nowhere side hustle to those who are running a full-time, high performing business.

I have worked with businesses from all sorts of industries. I see how difficult it is now more than ever to utilize this one relationship advice.

We are consumers of information. We love the idea as entrepreneurs to find a need and fulfill it. How do you get to understand your customer’s needs anyway?

My client, a Life Coach, had plenty of struggles to coach through with his clients. But why did anyone want to share their needs or wants freely?

Trust.

Simple right? Not at all. Some people would argue that trust is built over time. Certainly possible. But what about my Life Coach who is working his side hustle.

He doesn’t have months or years to develop trust. As they say, 90% of businesses fail in their first year.

So how do you develop trust effectively? How does trust building work? This is how my client built trust with his prospects and clients to generate an additional $225,000 in his side hustle.

1. Be Passionate

You ever listen to an motivational speech and feel like you want to run through a brick wall? Why a brick wall is the funny part, but it actually works well in this conversation.

No one would ever LITERALLY run through a brick wall. But when you hear motivating and PASSIONATE words that gives your the “push” that makes you feel unstoppable…well, you get the picture.

Regardless of your business or industry, memorize your mission statement and your values. Ask yourself this simple question, “Am I passionate about this?” Do I truly love this side hustle?

People will hear your passion through your words and actions. It will not only build your trust, but build your authority.

2. Give An Unconditional Gift

The difference between conditional and unconditional is simple. I will give you this gift (i.e. ebook, course, product, etc) in exchange for an email. That’s conditional. Nothing wrong with that. This is heavily used in marketing campaigns.

But do something different in addition to this. Offer a gift without any expectations to your prospects and current customers.

If you have a side hustle that’s a service, find a small aspect to your business that you can offer for free without any conditions.

An example could be a web designer offering to design 1 short landing page.

Test out some of these gifts and remember, do your research on what your clients need and want RIGHT NOW.

3. Take Notes

Whether you are a Life Coach like my client or a SaaS business, take notes. Understand their problems and clearly acknowledge them on the call or whatever medium you are using.

People appreciate when you are listening, but listening without taking notes is like a waiter trying to remember the orders for 5 tables of 12 people each.

If you are providing a service, keep a notebook near you and ask as many questions as possible to your prospects, colleagues, and clients.

The most important part to this element is to review your notes weekly so you are not overwhelmed with information.

Conclusion

You don’t have to be attached to the idea that trust takes time. If you follow simple steps that ensures people that you are INTERESTED in their endevours, people will trust you. It may not be dramatic, but enough to purchase your offer.

So let’s recap:

  1. Be Passionate
  2. Give an Unconditional Gift
  3. Take Notes

Review how the trust process is progressing for you over time. Make the tweeks needed and be caring. Building trust with others is a muscle and needs to be worked daily.
